Serena Owen

United Way Community Services Assistant Manager, Labor Liaison


Serena is passionate about social justice and improving the quality of life for everyone in our communities. For over twenty years, Serena has been a community activist and volunteer. She became a part of the Labor family over 10yrs ago as a member of her local Teacher’s Union. Now, in her role as a Community Services Labor Liaison, Serena supports the United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC) and Cincinnati AFL-CIO partnership. Her service to United Way and as a Labor Liaison provides her with the opportunity to do what matters most to her… help others, and live united through service and love.

Among Serena’s many accolades are the Outstanding Woman of Northern Kentucky award, the Kentuckians for the Commonwealth’s “Standing Up for Justice” Award, and Cincinnati Herald’s Nefertiti Award. Serena was recently honored by the Marguerite Casey Foundation as a 2017 Cesar Chavez Day National Community Hero for her Human Rights advocacy work and fight for the Health, Education, and Income Stability of members in our communities. In 2010, the Owen family received the Midwest 2010 Black Family Reunion Family of the Year Award. And to top that off, Serena is a Kentucky Colonel.

Serena holds a Master’s of Art in Teaching, Bachelors of Science in Communication, and Associates in Business from Northern Kentucky University
